Household Sprays Versus Pepper Sprays for Self Defense

I saw a news story the other day that reminded me of an issue that has been out of my mind for a long time. I thought maybe it would be a good time to discuss it, so you can see the shortfalls in using household sprays instead of pepper sprays as a self-defense weapon. In this article we will delve into this issue for you. The news story showed a store owner using wasp spray to repel what appeared to be a robber in his store. The wasp spray worked and the store owner repelled his assailant. So what's the problem you ask? I remember this issue coming up years ago. Only it wasn't wasp spray, it was hair spray back then. The same arguments for not using either one or any household product instead of pepper spray as a self-defense weapon hold true today as they did back then. For example, the wasp spray has a clear warning on it that says that it's "a violation of federal law to use the product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling. Do not use this product in a way that will contact any person or pet." So there you have it! It's illegal to use that as a defensive weapon, but the dangers don't stop there. Wasp spray and other household sprays are petroleum-based and if sprayed in anyone's eyes can blind them permanently. Defensive Sprays, while they are effective at disabling an assailant for as long as 45 minutes, cause no long-lasting harm, such as blindness. But wait there's more, as they say on TV commercials. Household products sprays such as wasp sprays and hair sprays are in big, bulky containers which you are unlikely to be carrying around with you when you need it most-which is any time. About the smallest container of hairspray we have ever seen is at least 16 ounces and is big and bulky. Pepper sprays come in sizes starting at One Half Ounce and are easy to carry and conceal in your hand, pocket or purse. One other issue that is vitally important is the ability to hit your target from as little as 8 feet away. Most household sprays are not focused and hit a bigger area than say a human target 8 feet away. Pepper sprays frequently are in streams that feature no blowback in rainy or windy conditions. The best thing for you to do is to get an inexpensive defensive spray, learn how to use it, practice using it and carry it with you all the time. Save your household product containers for the purposes they were intended. Check out all of our Pepper Sprays to see which one you like the best.
